Spicy Bourbon Maple BBQ Sauce
A Perfect Compliment to Smoked Meat
Give this sweet and savory BBQ sauce a try in place of store-bought favorites
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1/2 cup minced sweet onion
2 cloves minced garlic
1 1/2 cup ketchup
1/2 cup water
1/4 cup Old City Bourbon Barrel Maple Syrup
4 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
1 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
1 tablespoon worcesterchire sauce
1 tablespoon chili powder
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1/2 teaspoon cumin
In a medium sized cast iron skillet, heat the oil and sauté the onions until they are translucent. Add the minced garlic and sauce for 1 minute more.
Add remaining ingredients and simmer for 15 minutes or until sauce has thickened a little.
Transfer to blender and blend until smooth.
Use this sauce on cooked meat or as a marinade before cooking/smoking.
